The Special Zone General Service Center in coordination with the Culture - Society Department and the Phu Quoc Special Zone Youth Union (An Giang) organized a free swimming class and guided drowning prevention skills for children. The activity aims to equip children with swimming skills, drowning prevention skills and raise self-protection awareness during the summer.
Right from the first day of opening, many parents brought their children to participate. Most of the children have never been familiar with the water environment and also do not know how to swim, so this is an opportunity for them to learn basic swimming skills in a safe environment, with the guidance of a trainer.
The learning atmosphere was lively, exciting and received positive responses from parents. They expressed their hope that their children will soon learn to swim and equip themselves with more drowning prevention skills.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, residing in Quarter 5 Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Special Zone shared: "I am very happy that Phu Quoc Special Zone has organized free teaching for children throughout the special zone. When I learned about this information, I registered for my child, this is very practical and meaningful for every family with or without conditions to send their children to school to prevent drowning.
Mr. Dang Van Thao, residing in Quarter 11 Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Special Zone, said: "Letting children learn to swim at this time is a very suitable time because having free time in the summer is also a good way to exercise. We are very grateful for the local concern in creating conditions for children to learn to swim for free, equipping them with skills to handle situations correctly, when adults are not around, children will also have knowledge to handle.
According to the Organizing Committee, the free swimming class has a team of experienced coaches directly teaching and guiding students from basic skills to advanced skills. At the same time, members of the Organizing Committee are assigned to closely monitor each group of students to support, guide and ensure safety throughout the learning process. The program is built methodically, helping students get acquainted with the water environment, practice breathing techniques, learn basic swimming movements, and equip themselves with knowledge and skills to prevent and combat drowning. In addition, students are also guided on how to protect themselves and handle situations when encountering incidents underwater.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee, said that the class is for children from 7 to 15 years old, the study time is from July 2 to July 25, 2026 at Nam Anh swimming pool. The goal is that after this opening class, children will partly equip themselves with basic skills in self-protection. In addition, they can support and help their peers in the class or outside the community when problems occur related to drowning accidents or school accidents during the summer vacation.
Phu Quoc has advantages in the sea, rivers, and streams, which are favorable conditions for developing tourism, entertainment and water sports activities. Therefore, organizing free swimming classes during the summer helps children learn to swim and equip themselves with water safety skills, drowning prevention and emergency handling. This is a practical activity, contributing to protecting children's health and lives, while raising awareness of families and communities about drowning prevention and control.
