The results were just announced at the regional (Regional) round in Hanoi, held last weekend. Truong Tun (the name of the teams under the training of Ngu To Duy) continues to maintain the overall championship in the Senior group, 3 consecutive WSC seasons.
At the same time, 100% of the contestants trained by Ngu To Duy and participating in the regional round in 2026 all entered the list to continue the global round.
Worth mentioning, this is the 3rd consecutive year, from 2024 - 2026, students coached by Ngu To Duy won the Jac Khor Cup 3. Excellent contestant Pham Truong Giang won the Jac Khor Cup 2 consecutive WSC seasons 2025 - 2026.
Jac Khor (or Jac Khor Aard) is the most prestigious award at the Final Round of the World Scholar's Cup (WSC) international academic competition, awarded to a single student with the highest total score in 6 fields (science, society, history, literature, music, art) in the "Scholar's Challenge" competition. This is an award honoring comprehensiveness and outstanding academic spirit.
Not just a cup, the Jac Khor Award is a recognition of comprehensive academic thinking, the ability to connect interdisciplinary knowledge and the spirit of a top scholar.
Present in Vietnam since 2015, after 10 years, debate has become the "hottest" extracurricular subject in secondary and high schools in recent years. The Regional Round of the World Scholar's Cup (WSC - debate competition) season just took place in Hanoi, attracting nearly 2000 contestants with about 600 participating teams.
WSC has 4 competition sections divided into 2 halves: half skills (including Collaborative Writing - essay writing and Debate - debate) and half knowledge (including Challenge and Scholar’s Bowl sections: general knowledge competition on many different topics: music, history, fine arts, technology, geography, socio-politics).
This is also the 2nd consecutive year, under the leadership of Ngu To Duy, the excellent contestant group has won the Challenge championship and also achieved the top 1, top 2, top 3, top 4 cups in this category.
Ngu To Duy said that the journey to victory in the WSC competition has two main areas: first is the excellence of the contestants and coaches, second is the fighting spirit - the will of the contestants.
Any victory behind it is not only hard training but also sacrifice of time, health and pleasure outside.
The WSC competition or the subjects of debate, essay writing,... all encourage students to form critical thinking and very good listening ability. The basis for forming independent thinking comes from the philosophy that when people have confidence, they will know how to face obstacles. I think that when students are equipped with enough basic knowledge, they will have the ability to criticize.
To participate in a debate contest like WSC, all contestants must go through a similar process: researching and understanding a set of 2000-page English symposiums on in-depth topics such as science, technology, classical literature, famous symphonies, famous scholars or socio-political issues,... This knowledge is very heavy compared to middle and high school students.
The key to creating learning interest is building an inspiring environment. To achieve high results, students not only remember but also need to understand deeply to analyze and judge. Absorbing a large amount of knowledge requires endurance and appropriate methods, helping them unlock their potential and overcome their own limits every day.
Debate (debate) appeared in Vietnam in 2015 and is an extracurricular subject. When it first appeared in Vietnam, only private school students participated. For about 4 years now, debate has been present in most grade 2-3 schools in provinces and cities across the country.
There are no official statistics yet, but according to Ngu To Duy, the number of contestants participating in the Regional rounds in Hanoi of WCS increases on average by about 1.3 - 1.5 times each year.
The WSC competition kicks off with regional rounds in 60 countries, winning contestants in the highest rankings in the regional round will receive invitations to participate in the global round at venues around the world (BangKok, London, Dubai, Seoul,... ).
The contestant with the highest score in the global round continues to meet at Yale University (USA) in the "Season of the Champions" to compete in the final round.
