This is one of the academic exams with a long history, large scale and leading prestige in the field of applied mathematics education in Vietnam.
The exam is directed and organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, with the persistent companionship of Binh Tay Import-Export Joint Stock Company (BITEX) - the official representative of the CASIO brand in Vietnam.
Initiated in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Handheld Computer Math Competition was born in the context of the education sector starting to promote the application of modern tools in teaching and learning. From an initial experimental academic playground, the competition quickly received widespread response from teachers and students, gradually affirming its value, prestige and strong spread.
Over more than three decades of formation and development, the exam is a place to discover and train excellent students, contributing to shaping applied mathematical thinking, encouraging students to effectively exploit handheld calculators as a tool to support thinking, analysis and problem-solving in a scientific and accurate way.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the exam is organized in the context of administrative merger of three localities: Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, thereby expanding the scale of candidates with 3,800 students participating. To ensure organizational work, the exam is deployed at two locations on the same day, including Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Thuc Pham High School.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of BITEX Company emphasized the profound meaning of the exam in the new context: "In the context of digital transformation and deep international integration, education is not only about conveying knowledge, but also about arousing thinking, nurturing the bravery and adaptability of the young generation. The Math exam on a laptop is a testament to that spirit - where students not only solve math problems, but also learn how to master tools, optimize thinking, and solve problems intelligently and creatively.
With 3,800 contestants participating, this year's exam is a great day of wisdom, a gathering place for excellent students, faces full of aspiration, representing the future of the city named after Uncle Ho in the new development phase. No matter what the result, I believe that every student present today has won themselves by daring to try their hand, daring to step into a challenging intellectual playground.
The 32nd Ho Chi Minh City Handheld Computer Math Excellent Student Competition continues to affirm its role as a prestigious academic playground, rich in practical value, and at the same time demonstrates the close connection between the education sector - businesses - international partners in improving the quality of teaching and learning mathematics in Vietnam.
The exam questions are given in the form of multiple-choice (complete) or math problems that need to be summarized. The content of the exam questions for each grade is within the current curriculum of that grade, mainly the final grade program. Exam subjects: Math - Physics - Chemistry - Biology.
