Feeling discouraged and unmotivated when returning to work after the Tet holiday? Listen to the experts' advice to quickly get back into the swing of things.

Prioritize mental health

After a Tet holiday with family and friends, many people find it difficult to return to work. The change from the bustling festive atmosphere to the hustle and bustle of work can leave many people feeling unmotivated and even stressed.

Experts from Monash University have provided insights into this situation, along with solutions to help you easily adapt and regain your work inspiration.

Professor Herman Tse from Monash Business School explains that the post-holiday blues come from “emotional hangover” – like waking up from a beautiful but too short dream.

“One of the most effective ways to overcome the feeling of depression when returning to work is to prioritize mental health,” says Professor Herman Tse. “Simple things like flexible working hours, taking appropriate breaks, and engaging in personal development activities can help employees regain motivation.”

He emphasized the role of flexibility in the modern workplace. “There is no one-size-fits-all formula. The companies and organizations that will succeed in 2025 will be those that know how to combine face-to-face collaboration and work-life balance for their employees.”

Secrets to regaining energy for work after vacation

Dr Zen Goh from Monash Business School says long breaks are important for recharging. From an expert perspective, she recommends the following:

Sharing about the holiday with colleagues helps prolong the joy and strengthen connections with colleagues.

Prepare well before and after the holiday: complete work before the holiday and distribute the workload reasonably after returning to help reduce stress, creating conditions for yourself to reintegrate into work more easily.

Get excited about your next vacation: Plan trips or relaxing activities in the near future to boost your motivation and keep your spirits up.

Returning to work after a long holiday or holiday should not be a burden. By understanding that the post-holiday slump is completely natural, you can proactively apply appropriate strategies to regain your form and spirit.

Companies and organizations that prioritize creating a flexible and balanced work environment will not only help employees get through this period easily, but also boost motivation and increase performance in the long run.
