Once recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the largest collector of paper newspapers published in Vietnam since the end of the 19th century, Mr. Nguyen Phi Dung owns a collection of up to 400,000 paper newspapers of more than 1,000 types of newspapers, equivalent to 21 tons.
For nearly 10 years, Mr. Dung has collected many revolutionary newspapers in the early days, such as: Cuu Quoc, Doc Lap, Co Giai Phong, Vui Song..., or famous cultural and literary magazines of the time, such as: Phong Hoa, Ngay nay...
To preserve the above newspaper treasure trove, Mr. Dung has devoted a lot of time and effort to this. Mr. Dung shared: "I have a 50m2 room with air conditioners and humidifiers to regularly maintain room temperatures of about 22 degrees Celsius. For especially rare newspapers, I store them in nylon bags, rolls, put them in bullet shells, and carefully place them in glass cabinets or plastic containers."
With passion and love for paper newspapers, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Mr. Dung launched the above paper newspaper warehouse digitization project.
The project is implemented using high technology and techniques, ensuring safety and exploiting many future purposes. Through that, Mr. Dung hopes to digitize the repository of collected press documents and artifacts to easily access, research, study and exploit information through press documents. At the same time, it helps preserve rare press documents and artifacts from deterioration due to time and environment.
