On September 29, the Vietnam Food Bank Network and the Global Food Bank Network launched the Stop Food Waste campaign and introduced a handbook of food donation recommendations in Vietnam on the occasion of International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day (September 29).
This is a key, typical campaign throughout the "Food For Change 2024" campaign series deployed from September to October 16, across all Food Bank networks in Vietnam.
The program aims to raise public awareness about the current state of food waste, encouraging people to change their consumption habits wisely to save and reduce food waste as it is today.
Ms. Le Nhat Thuy - President of C.P. Vietnam Charity Support Fund - said: "Food loss and waste is a global problem with impacts not only on the environment but also deeply affecting human life.
Every year, millions of tons of food are thrown away while millions of people still face hunger and malnutrition. Food is not simply a source of life but also a source of hope, love, and sharing.
That's why our “Stop Food Waste” campaign not only aims to raise awareness of the issue, but also to provide practical solutions so that each of us can join in the fight against food waste."
Realize that food waste is still a long-term and urgent problem that needs to be solved.
According to a new report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Vietnam is currently ranked second (after China) with more than 8 million tons of food lost or discarded each year when it is still usable or salvageable, causing a loss of about 3.9 billion USD each year, accounting for nearly 2% of current GDP.
