The explosion of technology has created a virtual world with countless virtual relationships established, especially on social networking platforms. From this environment, baseless rumors can easily spread widely. Not only in cyberspace, but also in everyday life, rumors often appear and are discussed, leading to unintentionally creating serious consequences that the creator of the rumor could not have expected.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Thao (HCMC) confided: “I encountered rumors right in the room where I lived. When I first moved into the room and was not yet familiar with everyone, some people lost their things and they thought I took their things. At that time, I was quite confused and hurt. I thought I should find a way to solve it and not fight back. Because when I fight back, they will think even more that I am the one who took their things.”
Psychologist Cao Kim Tham (Director of the NHC Vietnam Psychotherapy Center in Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “There are rumors that have a very serious impact on the person mentioned. Because rumors will affect the honor, work, relationships and life of that person. If the person mentioned is not able to protect themselves, cannot be immune to that information, it will affect their health and psychology. Sometimes it will cause damage, even human life.”
Master Vo Thi My Duyen (Training Director of Vtalk Skills Academy) affirmed: “We humans must accept that each person will have different views and outlooks on life. We need to learn to stay calm in the face of rumors. Depending on the situation, we can solve it by speaking up. If we cannot meet each person to explain, we choose to remain silent and prove it through our actions and true selves. Next, we need to believe in our inner values, look at the positive in life to continue to strive to develop. We should connect with people who love and appreciate us because that is the premise of good relationships in the future.”
Everyone needs to be alert and calm when facing rumors about themselves or about others. It is necessary to consider and research carefully when sharing information on social networks or telling others. Avoiding spreading baseless rumors is also a way to protect yourself and those around you.
