The actor plays a man pushed to the brink by debt pressure, difficult life and fear of not being able to protect his family.
Sharing about the role-playing process, Avin Lu said that the most difficult thing is not creating a feeling of fear, but expressing the character's helpless psychology.
The scariest thing is not ghosts, but the feeling that I can't take care of my family. I'm a man, I'm the one who has to shoulder it, but when it's most needed, I can't do anything," he said.
According to the actor, he does not approach the character in the direction of trying to "act like it", but spends time putting himself in the state of someone who has no other choice.
I think when people are pushed to the extreme, their thinking will change a lot. At that time, they no longer think much about right or wrong, but only think about how to solve the immediate problem," Avin Lu shared.
The actor said that he had experienced periods of disorientation in life, so he somewhat understood the feeling of deadlock of the character. However, he does not want to compare himself to the harsh circumstances in the film.
In Ma Xo, Avin Lu's character also faces a greater pain than money, which is the feeling of being about to become a father but not being able to protect his child.
I think this is the biggest pain. Not debt or poverty, but having a child but not knowing how to keep the baby safe," he said.
According to Avin Lu, it is the state of loss of control and responsibility pressure that has caused the character to make many wrong decisions. After completing the film, what haunts him most is not the horror element but the compassion for those in extreme circumstances.
After filming, I saw that what remained was not a feeling of fear, but pity. pity for those in circumstances where there is no other choice," the actor shared.
In addition to Avin Lu, the film also features the participation of Le Khanh, Hanh Thuy, Tin Nguyen and Nguyen Sy Hau. The work is directed by Phan Ba Hy, belonging to the horror genre mixed with folk spiritual elements.
The movie Ma Xo is scheduled to premiere nationwide from June 5, 2026.
