Nguyen Hai Yen has been known to the audience since the Vietnam Idol 2007 competition, and has impressed with her powerful, emotional voice. Few people know that before pursuing a singing career, she spent many years in Taekwondo and played for the city team. A knee injury forced Hai Yen to stop her sports career, and also opened up a surprising turn to music. Although she initially did not receive support from her family, she still determined to study the Vocal Department at Hanoi College of Arts and soon won the Best Voice award from PT-TH Hanoi.
Vietnam Idol milestone helped Hai Yen become widely known, but also put her under heavy pressure. The female singer admitted that she was overwhelmed many times by the expectations of the public and the media. Many negative comments about her appearance made her lose confidence even more. I used to think that appearance was not important, but later, I understood that it was necessary to feel healthier and more confident. I have lost more than 17 kg, not to please others, but to make myself feel relieved, she confided.
At one point, Hai Yen had to temporarily stop singing for 2-3 years because she lost her passion for the profession and turned to doing business to stabilize her life. I have never given up on art, I just havent found a way to continue, she said.
Returning to the stage after a long period of silence, Hai Yen no longer focused on her glory, instead choosing to walk with the mindset of "nothing to lose". She affirmed: "I work as a new person, working because I like it and because I am passionate. success or not, it is no longer important, the important thing is whether I dare to do it.
