Whisky a Go Go is considered the " the gioi rock and roll sanctuary", the origin of legends such as The Doors, led Zeppelin, Mötley Crüe, Guns N' Roses or Nirvana. The appearance of a Vietnamese band here is a proud milestone, marking a new step forward for Vietnamese rock on the international music map.
On the Hollywood stage, Da Ma made an impression when appearing in ao dai, performing rock songs mixed with Vietnamese folk sounds. leader Hung BlackhearteD shared: We are honored to bring 100% of Vietnamese culture to the Whisky a Go Go stage. In addition to the fact that all members were born in Vietnam, we also introduced to international audiences familiar melodies such as "Drum of rice", "Beo da may troi" - musical heritages that have nurtured the Vietnamese soul".
Da Ma was founded by Hung BlackhearteD - leader of Black Infinity, along with many Vietnamese rock artists from three different generations. In particular, young guitarist Tran An Nguyen - son of artist Tran Tuan Hung (Buc Tuong) - contributed to continuing the resilient and creative spirit of Vietnamese rock.
The band chose the name "Da Ma/Yama" as a message of cultural exchange between the East and the West, while affirming their aspiration to reach out to the world.
Da Ma's music has a blend of modern strength and traditional Vietnamese - an identity that helped the group get into the "blue eye" of Trapt, a band that was once famous globally with the song Headstrong and a platinum- certificated album in the US.
