He won two important awards: Best Director and Best Vietnamese Feature Film for Flip Side 8: Sun Hands.
The SFNCFF Film Festival is an annual international film event that brings together more than 100 works from more than 30 countries in the Americas, Asia and Europe. This is a playground to honor independent filmmakers and projects with a creative spirit, encouraging diversity in the way of storytelling cinematic.
This year, Ly Hai surpassed many directors from the US, India, China and Europe to be named in the Best Director category. In addition, Flip Side 8: Sun Hands was awarded the title of Best Vietnamese Feature Film - a testament to the creativity and unique mark of Vietnamese cinema in the international arena.
The film was written, directed and produced by Ly Hai, co-produced by Minh Ha. Released in Vietnam from April 30, 2025, the film quickly created a strong effect, becoming one of the most popular works of the holiday season. After that, Flip Side 8 continued to be released in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan, setting a record as the first Vietnamese film to be released simultaneously on four continents.


Not stopping at the familiar family motif, the eighth film exploits the theme of music, youth and generational conflicts, revolving around the character Tam (Doan The Vinh) - a young man passionate about music but facing opposition from his father (Long Dep Trai). The film carries a warm message of family love and understanding, gathering veteran actors such as Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu, Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong, Ngan Quynh and many young faces.
After nearly 10 years of pursuing the brand "Lat mat", Ly Hai has made the series a phenomenon at the Vietnamese box office, with a total revenue of more than 1,400 billion VND.
