According to records from cinema systems, as of the afternoon of April 11, the film achieved revenue of about 2.5 billion VND after its opening day, showing remarkable attraction right from its release. The work is currently one of the Korean films with an impressive opening in the Vietnamese market in 2026.
The movie "Under the Shadow" exploits the exile period of King Danjong, but does not delve into politics but focuses on human fate amidst historical upheavals. The central story is the relationship between Yi Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon) and village chief Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hai-jin), two people of two different classes but gradually connected by trust, sympathy and humanity.
The strength of the film lies in its emotional approach, when it does not emphasize the element of power but emphasizes the slices of life, where people find connection in adversity. This simplicity but profoundness has helped the work create a strong effect with both international and Vietnamese audiences.
