Unlike selecting or renewing old songs, "Giang Pho" by Duong Truong Giang is a collection of 9 completely new works, composed seamlessly like a musical essay, in which each song is a small, independent story but closely connected in the same emotional space named Hanoi.
10 years of preparing for an album, "Giang Pho" shows both depth and objectivity. Musician Duong Truong Giang wants to continue to show a characteristic strength: the ability to beautify sadness. The sadness in his music is not tragic, not dramatic, but is placed in the true form of life, where sadness exists as a natural part of memory, of the city, and of each adult.
Speaking about the new album, musician Duong Truong Giang said, "Giang Pho" is not created with disjointed melodies, but a long story, where music is told with real, close emotions.
10 years after the first album, a shape, and emotional sidewalks. 20 years in the profession, that is a long enough time to no longer need flowery words, but just want to look directly at what I have done. "Giang Pho" was born as an inevitable part of that journey - an album that encapsulates what I have lived, observed and selected from Hanoi's sidewalks. I am not bringing here a few disparate melodies. I am bringing a long story called "Giang Pho".
Those are very real slices of the streets, from the very private noise of early mornings, to the husky silences of late nights. I choose to tell about the streets in a true musical language, because after so much time in the profession, I believe that music does not need to strain itself. It only needs to be itself, enough for everyone to find a part of their life in it" - musician Duong Truong Giang said.
According to the male musician, many songs in "Giang Pho" are written from a very simple concept of love. He compares love to giving gifts, where joy comes from the act of giving, not from the demand for response.
Explaining more about the concept of "street" in the album, Duong Truong Giang said that for him, "street" and "tree" are two figurative values that always remain, associated with Hanoi and with the layer of time covering everything.
Since writing "No Season Street", I have seen two symbolic values: Street and Tree, things that always remain. Attached to Hanoi, for me, is what is covered by the layer of time. Every object, every person, every story needs to go through time for values to appear" - musician Duong Truong Giang shared.
Speaking about expectations for "Giang Pho", musician Duong Truong Giang affirmed that he does not set out too big wishes besides completing the album completely and having the opportunity to share it with those who love him.
With "Giang Pho", musician Duong Truong Giang continues to affirm the musical path imbued with personal imprints, where everyday emotions, urban memories and the ripening of artistic experience are crystallized in each melody.
