A 14-year-old male student in Hai Phong was successfully performed emergency surgery after having a foreign object, a key, stuck deep in his head.

The 14-year-old male student, from Hai Phong, was admitted to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in a condition with a wound in the occipital parietal region, accompanied by a foreign object, a key deeply inserted at the injured location.

After examination and performing necessary paraclinical indications, the patient was diagnosed with a wound related to the vertical sinus vein. This is a dangerous injury, which can be life-threatening due to the risk of serious bleeding in a short time.

After assessing the hemodynamic status, doctors indicated emergency surgery. BSCKII Le Van Bang, Department of Neurosurgery II, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said that the biggest challenge in the surgery was the risk of massive bleeding when the foreign object was removed - a situation that was difficult to control and required the team to handle it accurately and promptly.

Thanks to the professional coordination of the medical team and modern equipment, the surgery was successfully performed, and the foreign object was safely removed. Because this was an invasive foreign object, the patient continued to be actively treated with high-dose antibiotics to prevent the risk of post-operative infection.

BSCKII Le Van Bang warns that violence can also originate from uncontrolled jokes. Familiar items such as keys and pens, if used incorrectly, can become serious injury triggers.

The consequences of these accidents are not only limited to immediate physical injuries but also risk leaving long-term sequelae for health, psychology, and even legal consequences and affecting families, schools, and society.
