Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital received a 15-year-old teenager admitted to the emergency room after being hit in the eye by a soccer ball while playing sports.
According to doctors, at the time of admission, the patient showed signs of severe pain and vision loss. Through examination, doctors determined that the patient had traumatic eyeball contusion, vestibular bleeding, glaucoma accompanied by corneal scratches. These are serious lesions, with the risk of long-term effects on vision function if not treated properly.
Immediately after that, the patient received intensive internal medicine treatment with anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, glaucoma-reducing, hemostatic measures and close monitoring of developments to limit the risk of more severe complications as well as early detection of combined lesions.
After the treatment process, the patient's eye condition initially stabilized, and symptoms improved significantly. However, the doctor said that the patient still needs to be monitored to assess the possibility of vision recovery and detect possible late-onset complications.
Doctors recommend that people, especially children and adolescents, be cautious when participating in sports with high risk of impact. When eye injuries occur, patients should not self-treat at home but should quickly go to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment, avoiding unfortunate consequences.
