The Department of On-Demand Treatment - Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital received a 23-year-old female patient with abnormally large abdomen. Through clinical examination and diagnostic imaging, doctors discovered a large tumor in the small pelvis, up to 19–22cm in size, originating from the left ovary.
This is a complex case because the patient is still very young and unmarried. The requirement set for the surgical team is not only to completely remove the tumor to avoid the risk of recurrence, but also to maximally preserve the healthy ovarian tissue, in order to retain reproductive function for the patient in the future.
The surgery was performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Thang - Head of the Department of On-Demand Treatment. During laparoscopic surgery, doctors recorded a tumor about 20cm in size, with multiple lobes, inside containing about 2,300ml of brown fluid, accompanied by bean residue and hair components - typical image of ovarian cyst.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Thang said: The number of follicles in each woman is finite. If the ovaries are heavily damaged, the risk of ovarian failure and premature menopause will increase. Therefore, each dissection operation must be carried out very meticulously, in order to clearly define the boundary between healthy tissue and tumors, thereby preserving maximum ovarian function for the patient.
Thanks to high professional skills and the carefulness of the medical team, the surgery was successful, helping the patient not only escape the dangerous tumor but also keep the opportunity to become a mother in the future.
