Ba Ria - Vung Tau - Although doctors have actively treated a case of alcohol poisoning, it is still in critical condition with a poor prognosis.

On December 22, Vung Tau Hospital said that one of the four cases admitted to the emergency room due to alcohol poisoning is still in critical condition. The remaining three cases are stable and are continuing to be monitored and treated.

All 4 patients were admitted to the hospital at 5:00 p.m. on December 21, of which 1 patient had a seizure and cardiac arrest, then was resuscitated and had a heart attack.

After treatment, it was noted that all 4 patients (at the same address) consumed the same type of alcohol at a snakehead fish noodle shop in Ward 11, Vung Tau City. The time of consumption was around 6:00 p.m. on December 19.

The oldest patient, N.A.V (born in 1970), said that after drinking alcohol, he did not show any unusual signs, but on the morning of December 20, he felt tired and dizzy, but still went to work. On December 21, he still went to work in the morning but was very tired and had to leave early. Then in the afternoon, he felt worse and was hospitalized for treatment.

The patients were diagnosed with severe acidosis suspected to be caused by methanol poisoning. Despite being prescribed continuous blood filtration at the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department, patient K.S (born in 2000) is still in a coma and has a poor prognosis.

According to the verification results of Ward 11 People's Committee, when customers wanted to drink alcohol, the owner of the banh canh establishment bought a 5-liter can of alcohol at T.Q grocery store (Ward 11) to serve customers; 4 people used up about 2 liters of alcohol.

The T.Q grocery store got the wine from Ms. H.T.C's facility and did not produce it. Ms. C reported that she bought the wine from a production facility in Long Phuoc commune (Ba Ria city), providing several invoices for previous purchases.

Notably, only the 5-liter can of wine at the snakehead fish noodle shop tested positive for methanol; while samples at other alcohol outlets tested negative.

At the same time, the snakehead fish noodle soup facility also does not have a food safety certificate (just submitted the application on December 19, scheduled for January 17, 2025 for facility assessment).
