On December 21, Vung Tau Hospital said it had received four emergency cases with headaches, dizziness, abdominal pain, visual disturbances, vomiting, and fatigue.
Despite the doctors' dedicated efforts, one of the four cases became seriously ill, suffering cardiac and respiratory arrest. This patient's heart and pulse have returned but he is still in critical condition.
According to doctors, the symptoms of these cases are quite similar to those of alcohol poisoning, when the methanol content exceeds the permissible level. Relatives also previously stated that all four cases drank alcohol at a snakehead fish noodle shop in Ward 11, Vung Tau City.
The patients are currently being treated at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department. At the same time, authorities are investigating to clarify the matter.
