A 12-year-old male student (in Hanoi) was admitted to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital with symptoms of severe pain, hematoma in the perineum and bloody urine.
According to medical history, the accident happened right during class. When the male student stood up to speak, he did not know that a pen was already placed under the seat by his friend. When he sat down, the pen tip suddenly poked into the perineum, causing serious injury.
Through examination and implementation of paraclinical indications, the patient was diagnosed with urethral damage.
Dr. Nguyen Huu Thao - doctor at the Center for Andrology, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital - said that the perineum is a particularly sensitive anatomical area, concentrating many blood vessels and important organs such as the urethra, rectum, penis, and testicles. Lesions in this area can lead to many complications such as widespread hematoma, urethral leakage, infection, perineal abscess, and can also have long-term effects on the physiological function and quality of life of patients.
After a period of intensive treatment, the male student's condition has improved significantly: hematoma has decreased, and he no longer urinates blood. In addition to physical health recovery, the patient also needs psychological support to soon return to normal life and study.
