This is a rare case, with an unusual number of fibroids, with a tumor greater than 5 cm occupying almost the entire uterine cavity.
The patient was admitted to the hospital with lower abdominal pain, prolonged kinh pain, and tired body. About three months before, she had gone to a private clinic for a check-up and was discovered to have only 1-2 small tumors, which had not yet affected her health. However, when re-examined at Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, the ultrasound and ultrasound (MRI) results showed that the uterus had many subcutaneous tumors.
Considering that the patient was young, had just had a child and wanted to preserve fertility, the doctors decided to perform surgical removal of the tumor. After careful preparation, the team successfully removed all 19 fibroids and retained the uterus. Currently, the patient's health is stable and recovering well after surgery.
Doctor Dang Ngoc Duong - Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - said: If not treated promptly, uterine fibroids can cause abscesses, severe anemia, infertility or significantly reduce the quality of life. Regular gynecological examination is the best way to detect early and treat it promptly.
According to doctors Dang Ngoc Duong, uterine fibroids are a benign disease but can lead to many complications depending on the location and size of the tumor. The fibroids can compress neighboring organs, causing abdominal pain, urinary difficulties, and stagnation of water; affecting the ability to conceive, hold a fetus; even causing twitching, severe pain in the pelvic area.
Doctors recommend that women, especially 35 years old and above, should pay attention to unusual signs such as menstrual disorders, prolonged lower abdominal pain, rapid abdominal enlargement... and see a medical facility early to avoid dangerous complications.
