The mother, Ms. N.H (43 years old, in Thai Nguyen City), was admitted to the hospital at 39 weeks of pregnancy, with multiple uterine fibroids and large tumors, making natural birth impossible. During this complex surgery, the fetus weighed up to 4,000 grams, while the uterus was compressed by many tumors, in which a khoi on the front of it measured 91mm x 45mm.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh - Director of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, who directly performed the surgery in the team - shared: "In obstetrics and gynecology, every surgery has potential risks and we cannot be subjective, each surgery has very unpredictable challenges. This case is really special. The entire front of the uterus is a fibromyalgia tumor weighing up to 2.8kg, completely covering the placenta. Even when the canal is very deep, it is still unable to reach the uterus. Uterine fibroids are large, blood vessels are tight, and cannot be separated first because they can be a great danger to pregnant women. If the fetus is not removed quickly, the anesthetic will seep into the fetus, which can cause respiratory failure".
Not only facing difficulties in accessing fetuses, surgeons also face additional difficulties due to the older pregnant woman, changes in physiological pathology, and strong increase in blood vessels, so the risk of high blood loss is possible. However, thanks to careful preparation and extensive experience, the surgical team successfully controlled this condition, the mother did not need to have additional blood transfusions.
After stressful moments in the operating room, the baby was born safely, weighing 4,000 grams, a cute, rosy and healthy boy.
Immediately after removing the fetus, the doctors continued to perform surgery to completely remove the tumor weighing up to 2.8 kg, remove the upper half uterus, leave two ovaries, and after removal, the product will be taken for pathological testing.
