Vinh Long General Hospital said that it has just successfully operated on a 49-year-old male patient carrying a ureteral stone about 5.5cm long, weighing nearly 100g, existing in the body for nearly 20 years.
According to the patient, about 20 years ago, he was diagnosed with urinary tract stones. However, because the pain only appeared in episodes and then decreased on its own, the patient was subjective and did not have re-examination and treatment.
Over time, the ureteral stones continue to develop, causing obstruction at the kidney-ureter joint, causing urine to not circulate normally, affecting the function of the left kidney and potentially causing many dangerous complications.
After examination, tests and diagnostic imaging, doctors determined that this was a rare case because the stone was very large and existed in the body for many years.
The surgical team decided to perform ureterectomy to remove the entire stone in combination with ureterectomy to solve the obstruction, maximize kidney function and limit the risk of long-term complications.
The surgery went smoothly, and all the stones were successfully removed. After treatment, the patient recovered well, urinary function stabilized, was discharged from the hospital and returned to normal life.
