The patient was a man in his 40s in New South Wales. He became the first person in the world to be discharged from the hospital with a fully artificial heart. The 6-hour surgery was performed on November 22, 2024 at St Vincent's Sydney Hospital. The patient was discharged from the hospital in early February 2025.
On March 6, 2025, the patient successfully received a heart transplant, setting a record of 105 days of living with a completely BiVACOR artificial heart before receiving a donated heart.
