Can Tho – To meet customers’ shopping needs at the end of the year and during Tet, supermarkets in Can Tho City are increasing imports to ensure price stability.

Shelves are full of goods

At supermarkets in the city these days, the shopping atmosphere is quite lively. On the counters and shelves, goods are displayed with many diverse designs, from essential foods to Tet products.

Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Minh Luong - Director of LOTTE Mart Can Tho Supermarket - said that purchasing power at the supermarket has increased slightly compared to last month. According to LOTTE Mart's assessment, purchasing power will increase by about 20% in the near future as consumers start shopping for the year-end holidays and Lunar New Year 2025.

To meet this demand, supermarkets have increased imports of goods, focusing on products such as Tet gift baskets, candies, food, and essential items.

“In addition to working with suppliers in advance, the supermarket also strengthens quality control of goods to balance and ensure that it meets consumers' shopping needs before, during and after Tet,” said Mr. Luong.

Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket - informed that from December 1, the Co.op Mart supermarket system in general and Co.op Mart Can Tho in particular have entered the peak of Tet. Products serving Tet have been put on the shelves one by one, depending on the type of goods, they will be imported at each time.

Also since December 1, purchasing power at Co.op Mart Can Tho has gradually increased, with some days doubling like Saturday and Sunday. The items that are attracting customers are fashion, seasonal goods, cakes, jams, and flowers.

According to Ms. Phuong, from around December 20 onwards, it is predicted that there will be a sudden increase in customers until New Year's Day and will continue to increase. The pressure on goods and customers will be concentrated in January 2025.

“The supermarket plans to import goods and estimates that this year’s purchasing power will increase by about 10% compared to the same period last year. The supermarket has stockpiled goods as estimated. With favorable conditions near the main warehouse, we will gradually import goods every day,” said Ms. Phuong.

Stable price

The types of goods imported by Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket to serve Tet are similar to previous years, but there is a shift in the price of Tet gift baskets.

Understanding and following customer needs, Ms. Phuong said that this year's commodity prices are basically guaranteed. The price segment is diverse from low to high so that consumers can choose products that suit their family's economy.

According to Mr. Luong, this year's Tet holiday, the supermarket will promote the distribution of essential goods, reduce luxury goods and select some new products for the Spring of At Ty 2025.

“The supermarket has worked with suppliers in advance to ensure the quantity of goods as well as maintain prices in the context of a volatile economy. Most of the market stabilization items will prioritize essential products used in daily life and other typical Tet products,” Mr. Luong informed.

Previously, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued a Decision on promulgating the Program to stabilize the market of essential goods, promote trade activities in 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025 in the city. The program is divided into 2 phases with groups of food and foodstuffs; groups serving the needs of Lunar New Year; household consumer products... to contribute to price stabilization, ensure supply and demand of goods, meet people's needs for essential goods at the end of 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025.
