On April 16, Binh Son Commune People's Committee, Quang Ngai province informed that chili prices have dropped sharply (down to 5,000 - 6,000 VND/kg), directly affecting people's incomes. Faced with this situation, Binh Son Commune People's Committee has proactively called on organizations, units and communities to implement connection and consumption support activities to help farmers overcome difficult times.
Binh Son is a large chili specialized area of the province with about 1,000 households participating in planting on an area of about 280 hectares, concentrated in Binh Duong and Binh Nguyen communes (old). This year, favorable weather helped chili plants grow and develop well, with high yields; red and beautiful chili peppers, output reaching about 25 tons/ha. However, due to deeply reduced purchase prices, many farmers do not have enough to cover the cost of investing in seeds and fertilizers.
Accordingly, Binh Son Commune People's Committee has assigned the Market Management Boards in the area to proactively connect with traders, organizations, and individuals inside and outside the locality to find outlets for products. At the same time, prioritize arranging favorable locations to promote and consume local chili peppers.

Associations and unions actively participate. The Commune Farmers' Association coordinates with villages to grasp harvest times, promptly provide information to purchasing units; mobilize businesses and collective kitchens to prioritize using local chili. The Youth Union and the Women's Union of Binh Son commune promote propaganda and mobilize union members, association members and people to respond to the spirit of "Local people prioritize using local agricultural products".
In addition, village heads review the output and consumption needs of each household, proactively coordinate with Binh Son Commune People's Committee and functional agencies to connect and expand the market. Agricultural product purchasing facilities are encouraged to share difficulties with farmers, not to force prices, and create favorable conditions for product collection and transportation.
Joining hands to support chili consumption not only contributes to helping farmers stabilize production and overcome immediate difficulties, but also demonstrates the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the community in developing the local agricultural economy.
Quang Ngai is one of the localities with the largest chili growing area in the country, with more than 1,000 hectares. Currently, the whole province has about 765 hectares of chili peppers entering early harvest.
At the same time last year, the price of chili peppers fluctuated around 50,000 VND/kg, sometimes up to more than 70,000 VND/kg. However, this year, right from the beginning of the season, the price is only about 14,000 VND/kg and has now fallen to 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg.
According to people and purchasing establishments, the reason for the sharp drop in chili prices is that the consumption market is heavily dependent on exports to China. This year, demand from this market decreased, while transportation costs increased, causing many container trucks to limit operations, output was blocked, and fresh chili prices therefore plummeted uncontrollably.
