The Investigation Police Agency, Hai Duong Provincial Police has just issued an emergency detention order for Cao Van Dinh (born in 1993, residing in Khanh Hoi area, Nam Dong ward, Hai Duong city) to serve the investigation related to many property thefts in the province.
Previously, on June 14, 2025, during a patrol, the police force of Hong Khe commune (Binh Giang district) discovered Cao Van Dinh parking a motorbike in front of Trinh Nu pagoda (Hong Khe commune) with many suspicious signs. The commune police requested the subject to go to the headquarters and then hand him over to the Criminal Police Department, Provincial Police for further investigation and exploitation.
At the investigation agency, Dinh confessed that from May 17 to June 8, 2025, he took advantage of the late night and the loophole in managing assets to break into many establishments such as Van Phuc pagoda, Bi Do village cultural house (Co Bi commune, Binh Giang district); Doi Hong pagoda (Le Loi commune, Gia Loc district); Luong Lai village cultural house (An Phuong commune, Thanh Ha district) to steal bronze bells, bronze tops, bronze candle, bronze loudspeakers, donation money and valuable worship items.
After committing the crime, Dinh took the evidence and hid it in a rented room in Tu Minh ward, Hai Duong city.
Through the investigation, the authorities determined: Most of the thefts occurred due to subjects taking advantage of their subjectivity in protecting property at religious establishments and cultural houses. Many places do not assign people to watch, do not lock gates, doors or install security monitoring systems. Some people still have the misconception that spiritual property will not be stolen by thieves.
In the face of the above situation, Hai Duong Provincial Police recommends that people, especially places of worship, need to raise their vigilance and proactively prevent theft crimes. Measures such as installing security cameras, building fences, locking doors firmly, arranging night watchmen and not leaving money or valuable antiques in areas without managers are extremely necessary to protect common property.
