On August 26, Hoai Nhon Dong Ward Police (Gia Lai) said they had arrested Vo Van Viet (born 1989, residing in Hoai Nhon Dong ward), a wanted subject for property theft, while hiding at sea.
According to initial investigation, from January 1 to November 31, 2025, Viet committed 3 property thefts in Hoai Nhon Dong ward. Taking advantage of people being away from home and not locking the door carefully, Viet broke in and stole property.
From the collected evidence, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the accused and apply preventive measures prohibiting Viet from leaving his place of residence.
However, Viet fled the locality. After that, the Investigation Police Agency issued an arrest warrant for Viet.
To evade arrest, Viet applied to work on fishing boats, often drifting offshore and not ashore.
At the beginning of August 2026, through grasping the situation in the area, reconnaissance officers of Hoai Nhon Dong Ward Police discovered Viet hiding on seafood purchasing vessels in the sea area of Da Nang City.
Hoai Nhon Dong Ward Police quickly made a plan, coordinated with functional agencies to organize ambushes and pursue the subject.
At about 3 am on August 25, the police force approached, controlled and arrested Viet when the subject was moving in the offshore sea area of Son Tra ward (Da Nang City).
Viet was transferred to his locality on the same day to serve the investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
