With the consent of the Head of the Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam Coast Guard, from June 25 to 27, the 2002 Coast Guard Ship under Squadron 401, Coast Guard Region 4 Command will send a working group from Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Soc Trang provinces to survey and grasp the situation in the Southwest sea and islands.
Within the framework of the working trip, the delegation will carry out many practical and meaningful activities such as: Visiting, encouraging, and giving gifts to the people, officers and soldiers who are working, living, and on duty at sea and on Tho Chu island. Pay tribute and commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed and died in the sea, the sacred southwestern continental shelf of the Fatherland. Participating in patrolling, inspecting, controlling, propagating, and mobilizing people and fishermen to comply with the law when doing business at sea, especially complying with regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing...
Speaking before the trip, Major General Nguyen Van Dung - Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4, Head of the working delegation - emphasized: "Through this activity, we hope to help local Party committees and authorities directly fully feel the sea and islands that localities are assigned to manage. Thereby grasping the political security situation, social order and safety, potential for marine economic development in the Southwest sea and island to have appropriate policies and solutions as well as advising the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense in ensuring security, sovereignty, order and safety at sea, and sustainable marine economic development. In particular, combating IUU violations most effectively to soon contribute to removing the EC "Y yellow card" for the Vietnamese fisheries sector".
