On the morning of April 29, at the Boat Race wharf on the North bank of the Ben Hai River, belonging to the Special National Relic Area on both banks of Hien Luong - Ben Hai, the Organizing Committee of the Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival solemnly held the opening ceremony of the Traditional Boat Race within the framework of the 1st Provincial Sports Festival, period 2025 - 2026.
The tournament is organized on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South, national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026) and the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day (May 1, 1886 - May 1, 2026). This is an activity of profound political, cultural and sports significance, contributing to educating patriotic traditions, arousing national pride, and expressing gratitude to previous generations who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The Organizing Committee emphasized that the organization of the boat race on the historical river not only has the meaning of sports competition but also contributes to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. At the same time, the tournament contributes to promoting the movement of physical exercise and sports, improving people's health, and continuing to promote the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho".
This year's tournament attracted 33 boat teams with nearly 300 athletes from 12 delegations from localities with developed boat racing movements throughout the province. The teams competed in 5 sets of medals, competing in two days, April 28 and 29, 2026.
The competition events include distances of 1,000m and 2,000m for women's boats; distances of 1,000m and 2,000m for men's boats; and distances of 2,000m mixed men's and women's boats.
The traditional boat race of the 1st Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival contributes to creating a vibrant emulation atmosphere, promoting the mass sports movement, building a healthy cultural life, and at the same time promoting the image of Quang Tri homeland to friends and tourists inside and outside the province.
At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes for the competition events. In the 1,000m boat event for 10 men, the Gold Medal belonged to Vinh Thuy; the Silver Medal belonged to Dong Le commune; the Bronze Medal belonged to Nam Dong Ha ward.
In the 1,000m boat event for 10 female rowers, the Gold Medal belonged to Cua Tung commune; the Silver Medal belonged to Trieu Phong commune; the Bronze Medal belonged to Truong Ninh commune.
In the 2,000m boat event for 10 men, the Gold Medal belonged to Dong Le commune; the Silver Medal belonged to Nam Dong Ha ward; the Bronze Medal belonged to Trieu Phong commune.
In the 2,000m boat event for 10 female rowers, the Gold Medal belonged to Truong Ninh commune; the Silver Medal belonged to Cua Tung commune; the Bronze Medal belonged to Trieu Phong commune.
In the 2,000m mixed men's and women's boat event, the Gold Medal belonged to Truong Ninh commune; the Silver Medal belonged to Nam Gianh commune; the Bronze Medal belonged to Vinh Thuy commune.
