National Highway 5 is a vital traffic route connecting Hai Duong with major provinces and cities in the Northern key economic region, with a total length of 113.252 km and a designed traffic volume of 15,000 vehicles/day and night. However, in reality, the traffic volume is currently more than 6 times higher than the design, an average of more than 90,000 vehicles/day and night.
Of which, the section passing through Hai Duong province is 44.11 km long, with 17 overpasses, 156 connecting locations of national highways, provincial roads, district roads, key urban roads; 8 industrial parks, industrial clusters, 7 schools located adjacent to the road; 25 bus stops, fixed bus pick-up and drop-off points.
This route is showing many shortcomings in infrastructure and traffic organization, causing many difficulties, potential risks of traffic accidents, affecting the lives and production and business activities of people and businesses.
Recently, the Steering Committee for the construction of National Highway 5 as a safe traffic route has implemented solutions to overcome infrastructure problems and traffic organization on National Highway 5 passing through the province.

Representatives of the leaders of the Vietnam Road Administration, Road Management Area I... proposed a number of solutions related to ensuring traffic order and safety at points connecting to industrial parks and schools on National Highway 5.
At the same time, it agreed to advise competent authorities to invest in camera systems to manage, monitor security and order, detect violations of traffic safety and order to serve "cold fines"; organize the separation and flow of vehicles on the route to avoid congestion; implement maintenance, upgrade, renovation, and repair projects for infrastructure flexibly and promptly with the motto that all shortcomings must be thoroughly handled...
Mr. Vu Duc Hanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Hai Duong province said that infrastructure renovation and upgrading such as expanding roads, building service roads, overpasses to limit intersections and traffic conflicts need to be done urgently; Reorganize traffic at bypasses, sections with high population density and industrial parks, limiting large vehicles to travel during people's working hours and work hours; adjusting public transport stops...
Meanwhile, Colonel Nguyen Duc Thin - Deputy Director of Hai Duong Provincial Police has requested the Vietnam Road Administration to direct functional units to regularly review, maintain and repair road systems, signs, and traffic lights; complete the infrastructure of renovated sections, continue to renovate unupgraded sections; promptly handle and immediately overcome the consequences of traffic accidents on infrastructure.
