After that, a child climbed up to the shore and ran into the house to call an adult to rescue the other child.
Meanwhile, some other children riding bicycles through the area also stopped but only stood and watched. A few seconds later, a child in a blue outfit quickly ran over, observed the situation and climbed into the canal to save the sinking victim.
At the moment of danger, a man in a black shirt ran from the dance hall straight down to the canal, bringing the remaining child to shore so that everyone could promptly provide first aid to the child.
According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper, the first person to go down to the canal to save the child who was gradually drowning was Vu Hong Phong (6th grade student at Phuong Dinh Secondary School).
Hong Phong shared that at that time, Phong was playing near Van Canh bridge when he learned that a child had fallen into the canal. Seeing that, Hong Phong immediately ran to observe the situation and then went down to the canal to rescue.
"At that time, I didn't think about anything, I only remember the swimming skills and handling when drowning learned at school, so I applied them to go down and save that baby. When I got off, I tried to swim out to get the baby in, but my weak strength could not hold him to shore. At that time, an adult ran over and jumped down to help," Hong Phong said.
The man who jumped down to support Hong Phong and directly brought the baby to shore was Mr. Nguyen Van Duy (born in 1985, residing in Van Canh village, Ninh Giang commune).
Mr. Duy said that when he heard the screams, he immediately ran out very quickly and plunged into the canal.
"At that time, Phong was trying to find a way to bring that child in the middle of the canal in. I quickly approached, pulled the child to shore, then immediately put on an artificial heart and breathing with everyone for first aid. Because I live near the river area, I have known how to swim and have saved children in distress since I was a child. Last year, I also saved a first-grade child who unfortunately slipped and fell into a canal," said Mr. Duy.
Thanks to the quick and timely coordination of Mr. Duy and Hong Phong, the child was saved.
On August 4, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of Ninh Giang Commune People's Committee said that the local government had sent officials to visit the health of the child who fell into the canal. In addition, considering commendation, reward and encouragement for individuals who have acts of courage to save people.
