Son La - Moc Chau high mountainous area recorded a temperature drop of 14 degrees Celsius, the whole province will enter a period of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

According to news from Son La Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from early morning on May 4, the continental high pressure intensified in combination with the cold front and wind convergence zone up to 5000m has been operating strongly in the area.

This phenomenon causes the weather throughout the province to become cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The weather turns cool, especially in high mountainous areas, some places turn cold with East to Northeast winds of level 2-4.

Detailed records on May 4, Moc Chau is the locality with the lowest temperature, possibly down to 14 degrees Celsius.

Forecast from May 5 to May 13, the area will continue to be affected by a low pressure trough connecting to the low pressure area to the West, then compressed and pushed south by continental high pressure.

The weather is generally cloudy, cold at night and early morning. Notably, in the period from May 9 to May 11, the area will form a new wind convergence zone up to 5000m, continuing to cause showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and night, sunny during the day with winds from East to Southeast level 2-3.

The Provincial Hydrometeorological Station emphasized that on days with thunderstorms, people need to be especially wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. These are extreme weather patterns that can cause heavy damage to agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, infrastructure and transportation works.

In addition, localized heavy rain poses a high risk of causing floods, flash floods and landslides, especially in areas with steep terrain, along rivers and streams, hillsides and areas under construction. Low-lying areas also need to have proactive plans to prevent flooding.

Functional agencies recommend that temperature differences, cold weather at night and early morning can adversely affect human health, especially paying attention to keeping warm for the elderly and children.

In addition, heavy rain reduces visibility, causing slippery roads, so people need to be very careful to avoid accidents when participating in traffic.
