The hot weather is forecast to arrive early and be intense this year, leading to great pressure on the power system as electricity demand increases.

Information from Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) on March 13 said that the unit has prepared and is ready with many solutions to ensure safe and stable power supply in 8 southern provinces and cities.

Proactively responding to extreme heat

EVNSPC quoted information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting as saying that right from the beginning of March 2026, hot weather has appeared widely in the Southeast region. In April 2026, hot weather tends to expand to the Central Highlands and the Southwest region...

Hot weather and the double-digit growth target of many localities lead to a forecast strong increase in electricity demand. Electricity supply in 2026, especially in the dry season, will face many challenges.

Mr. Bui Quoc Hoan - Deputy General Director of EVNSPC - said that from the end of 2025, EVNSPC and its member units have proactively developed detailed power supply plans for each month and for the whole year; and at the same time developed operating, inspection, and maintenance plans for the power system weekly, monthly, and annually so that the power grid is always in stable operation.

The power supply plan is built by EVNSPC and its member units based on fully considering impact factors such as rooftop solar power development, customers' self-produced power sources, power grid construction investment plans and indicators related to commercial electricity, power loss, technical management of power grids...", Mr. Bui Quoc Hoan added.

EVNSPC also closely coordinates with provinces and cities on the electricity supply situation in 2026; unifies a coordination mechanism for managing/supervising key energy users... Along with that, the work of inspecting and reviewing the power grid is regularly implemented by power companies to detect and promptly handle incident risks. Units also focus on closely monitoring power lines with high load capacity, especially lines with over 90% load capacity, building specific plans, solutions and plans.

In parallel, the Corporation promotes investment, renovation, and modernization of the power grid; applies advanced technology to reduce incidents and improve reliability; promotes the development of on-site sources, encourages and supports households and investors to develop rooftop solar power,...

Many investment projects to build and upgrade power grids and 110kV substations of EVNSPC have also been accelerated, energized and put into operation to improve power supply reliability... From the beginning of the year to now, EVNSPC has energized and put into operation 18 110kV power grid projects. From now until the end of April 2025, the Corporation strives to energize 33 more 110kV projects.

Strengthen load management, save electricity

According to EVNSPC, one of the key solutions being implemented is to promote the Electricity Demand Management Program (DSM) and the Electricity Load Adjustment Program (DR). Accordingly, power companies have reviewed and updated the list of key energy users and customers with electricity consumption of 1 million kWh/year or more to sign an agreement to participate in the load adjustment program in 2026.

To date, the Corporation has signed DR agreements with 5,037 customers with an output of 1 million kWh/year or more, with a reduced capacity of about 514 MW. In the coming time, power companies will continue to develop monthly DR plans, promote propaganda and mobilize customers to participate; and at the same time operate DRMS and remote sensing systems stably to improve the efficiency of electricity demand management and contribute to ensuring safe power supply.

In addition, units also proactively develop load shift plans, encourage customers to adjust production plans to low-pressure hours to contribute to reducing pressure on the power system during peak hot weather.

Along with that, the electricity saving program with many solutions continues to be strongly implemented according to Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister. Electricity companies in the area coordinate with Departments of Industry and Trade, socio-political organizations and groups to promote propaganda and mobilize people and businesses to increase electricity saving; coordinate with Departments of Industry and Trade, functional agencies to organize and supervise the implementation of electricity saving by electricity users...

With early preparation and many solutions put forward, EVNSPC is focusing its highest efforts to ensure safe, stable and quality power supply, meeting the electricity demand for production, business and daily life of people in the area managed by EVNSPC's power supply in this hot season.
