Nghe An fines nearly 500 cases of illegal seafood exploitation

Nghe An - In 2 years, the authorities of Nghe An province have sanctioned 478 cases of violations of regulations on combating illegal fishing (IUU).

On November 30, according to information from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, up to now, 100% of Nghe An fishing vessels have had their license plates painted and marked in accordance with regulations. The province has 1,041 ships qualified to operate with installation of voyage monitoring equipment, reaching a rate of 100%.

The authorities maintain a 24/7 duty to monitor and warn ships that are disconnected or cross the permitted boundary; at the same time, transfer the list of violations to the Border Guard for handling. As of November 25, the whole province has controlled 15,577 fishing vessels/109,822 departing from the port and 15,148 vessels/109,626 fishing vessels arriving at the port.

In parallel with the control work, coastal localities such as Tan Mai ward and Hoang Mai town regularly coordinate with Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station and mass organizations to patrol and disseminate the law to fishermen.

The activity aims to raise awareness of compliance with IUU regulations, guide updating exploitation logs, install journey monitoring equipment and strictly implement the commitment not to violate foreign waters.

From the beginning of 2024 to now, the authorities of Nghe An province have sanctioned 478 cases of violations of regulations on combating illegal fishing (IUU), with a total amount of nearly 9.5 billion VND.

To date, 100% of ship owners and captains of offshore fishing in the province have signed a commitment not to violate illegal seafood exploitation.
