On the morning of May 19, Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that the Department had analyzed the air environment monitoring parameters at Nghia Ky landfill and neighboring residential areas, after the fire at the landfill in the premises of Nghia Ky domestic waste treatment plant, Nghia Giang commune with a burned area of about 1ha.

The analysis results of the monitoring parameters, including: TSP, SO2, NO2, CO, H2S, NH3 dust, showed that the air quality in the area was within the permissible limits of the National Technical Regulation on Air Quality. No signs of air pollution exceeding the regulation with potential abnormal effects on the environment and daily life have been recorded.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 1:00 PM on May 14, 2026, a fire occurred in the landfill area within the premises of Nghia Ky domestic waste treatment plant, Nghia Giang commune, with a burned area of about 1ha.
In the afternoon of May 15, Mr. Do Tam Hien - Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee inspected the scene of the fire and assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to organize air quality monitoring in the fire area and surrounding areas to assess the level of environmental impact.
Immediately after the direction, the Geodetic and Environmental Monitoring Center (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) deployed sampling monitoring on the morning of May 16 in the landfill area and residential areas 1 - 2.5km from the Nghia Ky domestic waste treatment plant area.
At the time of sampling and monitoring, the fire was controlled, only a few small fires remained at some locations.
