On June 5, in Ban Gioc waterfall area (Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh), the People's Committee of Cao Bang province held a rally in response to World Environment Day 2025 and Environmental Action Month, with the participation of more than 200 delegates who are cadres, soldiers, youth union members, students and people.
At the ceremony, representatives of departments, branches and People's Committees of districts and communes signed a commitment to implement the waste classification model at source in three communes: Dam Thuy, Chi Vien and Phong Chau.
At the same time, union members and youth organized weeds clearing, waste collection, flower planting, dredging drainage systems and displaying local products.
With the theme "Stop plastic pollution", this year's World Environment Day is an urgent warning about the global plastic waste situation.
According to the United Nations, the world emits about 430 million tons of plastic each year, mainly disposable products. In Vietnam, about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year, but only 27% is recycled.
In recent years, Cao Bang province has implemented many programs to prevent and combat plastic waste such as the model " Say no to plastic bags and disposable plastic products" at tourist destinations and developed a communication plan, collecting plastic waste for recycling.
These activities not only contribute to environmental protection but also promote economic development, improve people's lives, ensure security, national defense and complete development goals for the period 2020-2025.
At the program, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cao Bang province called on all levels of government, the business community, and each citizen to take action, not to be indifferent to plastic waste pollution.
Proactively create a green life, protect the environment - for a sustainable environment for today and tomorrow. On this occasion, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cao Bang province and the People's Committee of Trung Khanh district, the People's Committees of Dam Thuy, Chi Vien, Phong Chau communes signed a commitment to implement the project of waste classification and treatment at source.
