On May 16, Piaggio Vietnam organized the "Vespa 80 Years of an Icon" event in Thu Thiem Riverstage (HCMC), marking the 80th anniversary of the formation and development of the iconic scooter brand from Italy.
Born on April 23, 1946 under the hands of aviation engineer Corradino D'Ascanio, Vespa quickly made its mark with a monolithic steel body design inspired by aviation engineering. After nearly 8 decades, this brand has introduced more than 160 versions with nearly 20 million vehicles sold globally.
According to Piaggio Vietnam, the event in Ho Chi Minh City is part of a series of activities to celebrate Vespa's 80th anniversary worldwide, towards Vespa World Days 2026 taking place in Rome (Italy) at the end of June.
On this occasion, Piaggio Vietnam also introduced the Vespa 80th collection including Vespa Sprint 80th 125, Vespa Sprint 80th 180 and Vespa GTS 80th 300 versions. The highlight of the commemorative car line is the Verde Pastello paint color inspired by the original Vespa models of the post-war period.
Special versions are supplemented with many unique design details such as the "80th" logo, rims inspired by the first generation Vespa 98 and a synchronous finishing style according to the "mono-color" philosophy. In addition to heritage elements, Vespa 80th is also upgraded in technology with color LCD/TFT screens, Vespa MIA connectivity, keyless smart lock and driver assistance features.
Notably, Vespa Sprint 80th is equipped with a new i-Get 180 engine for the first time in the Vietnamese market. Meanwhile, Vespa Sprint 80th 125 has a announced fuel consumption of 1.85 liters/100 km, while Vespa GTS 80th uses a HPE 300 engine.
