Lacquer paintings have left a mark on visitors with "life"-like strokes in the exhibition at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center.
On the afternoon of April 15, the exhibition "Sơn ta sử tích" officially opened within the framework of a series of activities to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South, national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026) and the 136th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2026).Abstract lacquer works by painter Nguyen Dinh Bang become highlights, suggesting a way to approach life not only through direct images, but also through emotions and inner depth.According to the artist, lacquer painting is not as graceful as silk painting, not as colorful as oil painting, but contains transformations that are hard to find in other materials. The work "Village Festival" is a harmonious combination of traditional lacquer techniques such as gold, silver and the technique of sprinkling metal powder. The painting stands out with soft curves interwoven, creating a feeling of tension and movement in space. The work does not need a specific shape but still creates a strong visual impression.Unique with the lacquer painting "Flowers and Grasses of the Countryside" inspired by wildflowers and grasses, encountered very accidentally in life. When put into the work, the artist has omitted cumbersome elements, only keeping the core lines and emotions. It is not just flowers and grasses, but memories and feelings filtered through an artistic perspective. The work "Drifting" impresses with color patches and lines evoking the continuous changes of human emotions and states. Life is not standing still. Those movements are expressed through layers of shapes and colors stacked on top of each other. Each "fold" is a trace of time, of constant changes. With the work "Pieces" created from diverse blocks arranged in space, creating a vivid whole. Each piece is a different slice of life, which is not only the material world but also encompasses both spirit and culture. The work "Dau ban" is expressed through suggestive shapes but not specific and clear. The two characters have both intersection and connection with each other in a quiet space. That tranquility does not create a feeling of distance but brings closeness and familiarity. Hidden in it is the breath of the countryside, familiar and ordinary memories. All blend together, creating a feeling that is both abstract, rich in life and emotion. The work "Each New Day" is a combination of darkness and light, things that are gradually revealing and things that are slowly sinking. This is the intersection between beginnings and ends, between hidden things and things that are revealed, creating a vivid and meaningful picture of life.
