The difference between olive oil and vegetable oil
Processing and flavor:
After being extracted, vegetable oils are usually cleaned with chemicals and heated to remove impurities and prolong their shelf life. The more oil goes through processing, the less nutrients and the less flavor.
Meanwhile, extra virgin olive oil is processed at a minimum, with a different olive taste than vegetable oil. Olive oil is only extracted from pressed olives, with extra virgin olive oil. In contrast, vegetable oils are made by mixing oils from different sources, such as cabbage, cotton, sunflower, soybeans, corn and rum.
Regarding nutrition:
Both olive oil and vegetable oil contain unsaturated fatty acids, olive oil contains monounsaturated fats such as oleic acid, linoleic acid and palmitic acid. Vegetable oils are typically omega-6 polyunsaturated fats.
Monounsaturated fats have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and are beneficial for heart health. Cocoa with polyunsaturated omega-6 fats can cause inflammation and harm heart health if eaten too much.
extra virgin olive oil - a less processed olive oil is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds such as tocopherols, carotenoids and polyphenols. Minimum refined olive oil also maintains some micronutrients, such as vitamins E and K. On the other hand, the refining process is used to produce vegetable oils that destroy micronutrients, antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds, including tocopherols, phytosterols, polyphenols and coenzyme Q.
Which oil is healthier?
Olive oil, especially extra virgin oil, is one of the least processed cooking oils, which means it retains the most antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, vegetable oils have to go through many processing processes to neutralize the flavor and blend some vegetable oils. This means it has the minimum of beneficial nutrients, leaving only empty calories.
One study found that replacing vegetable oils with extra virgin olive oil helps improve cognitive function in older adults. Choosing to consume oils and extra virgin olive oil is considered a much healthier choice than most vegetable oils and vegetable oil blends.
