Russian presidential Deputy Chief of Staff Dmitry Kozak has resigned - Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"I can confirm that Dmitry Kozak has resigned," Peskov said, adding that the Deputy Chief of the Office had voluntarily resigned.
Spokesperson Peskov did not specify whether President Putin had signed the resignation decree of Mr. Kozak. "We have not issued a decree. There is no decree yet," Peskov said.
Kozak is a long-time member of the Russian presidential office. He began working at the Kremlin in 1999 as deputy chief of the Legal Department. At that time, ong Boris Yeltsin was the President and ong Alexander Voloshin was the Chief of Staff.
After Vladimir Putin was appointed Prime Minister, Mr. Kozak moved to work in the government. In 2000, Mr. Kozak returned to the Kremlin, becoming the first Deputy Chief of Staff.
From 2008 to 2020, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Russia. He supervised issues related to socio-economic development of regions, state policies in the fields of construction and architecture, housing and utilities, and the division of power between the federal and local governments.
He also coordinated preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Since 2018, he has been in charge of issues related to fuel and energy complexes, industry, trade and technology supervision.
Since 2020, Mr. Kozak has held the position of Deputy Chief of the Office of the Russian President.
