The number of people taken to the hospital by ambulance due to heat stroke in Japan in June 2025 more than doubled compared to the same period last year, up to 17,229 people.
This is the highest level since the statistics began in 2010, according to the Japan Fire and Natural Disaster Management Agency. The previous record for June was 15,969 people, recorded in 2022.
In June, many areas in Japan continuously recorded temperatures from 35 degrees Celsius or higher. These harsh weather conditions especially affect the elderly, with 10,342 cases hospitalized being people aged 65 and over, accounting for about 60% of the total number of cases.
Most cases of heatstroke occurred at home or in the living environment with 6,819 cases, followed by 3,404 cases on the streets.
In light of the above situation, Japanese authorities have urged people to stay indoors during heatstroke warnings and use air conditioners or fans appropriately to minimize risks.
