According to the Vietnam Economic - Cultural Office in Taipei, on the morning of April 3, 2024, there were large-intensity earthquakes and aftershocks that seriously affected most areas of Taiwan (China), causing many deaths and injuries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has directed the Vietnam Economic - Cultural Office in Taipei to quickly contact local authorities and Vietnamese community units to grasp information and promptly respond to the situation. To date, there has been no information about the casualties of Vietnamese people in this earthquake.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan and the Philippines to prepare citizen protection plans after the governments of these countries issued a Tsunami warning.
Following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese representative agencies in relevant areas will continue to closely monitor the situation, maintain close contact with Vietnamese community units, and be ready to deploy citizen protection measures if necessary.

According to the Taiwan Fire Agency (NFA), a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that hit the richter killed at least seven people and injured more than 700 others. Among the injured, 132 were in Hoa Lien district, near the center of the earthquake.
The earthquake damaged 125 buildings across the island, according to the Taiwan Fire Agency. About half of the damaged buildings are in Hoa Lien district.
The 3.4-am earthquake was the strongest in 25 years in Taiwan. The center of the earthquake was 18km south of Hoa Lien city, at a depth of 34.8km, according to the US Geological Survey.
