German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with Axel Springer, from Business Insider: "Chairman Biden has pursued a suitable domestic economic development policy, helping to ensure good control of peace and security and the US is truly promoting its role in the world".
"I think it's a bit strange that people in this country speculate about who will win the next US presidential election. I think it is very likely that the incumbent president will win the election," the German leader said, adding that Mr. Biden has always been committed to solidarity and cohesion in the US.
President Biden has faced concerns about his age, fitness, and spirit. However, the German Chancellor rejected those concerns and said the US President was very clear.
Mr. Biden is one of the most experienced politicians in the world, especially when it comes to international politics, Scholz said. I can only say that this is someone who knows exactly what he is doing.
In a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, 41% of registered voters said they would vote for former President Donald Trump if the election were held now, while 39% said they would vote for President Biden.
However, according to Reuters, the survey was about 3% wrong, noting that a survey from late May showed that Mr. Biden was 2% ahead of Mr. Trump.
After President Joe Biden announced his re-election in April last year, the majority of Democratic leaders have expressed their support.
Mr. Biden has one of the most unusual departures for any president in US history: He has been in Washington D.C for more than 50 years as a Delaware state Senate member, vice president and now president. And if re-elected for a second term this fall, he will be 82 years old at the time of taking office in January 2025 and 86 years old at the end of his second term.
Mr. Biden's age has become a cause for concern for many voters. Worries have risen after special adviser Robert Hur released a report on the investigation into Mr. Biden's handling of confidential documents, raising doubts about the president's ability to be sensitive and memory.
Mr. Biden has defended his re-election bid, calling his age an asset, opposing the special adviser's report and clarifying why he should be re-elected - pointing to achievements such as the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the inflation Reduct Act and low unemployment rates.
Mr. Biden is currently dominating the Democratic primary elections and has pledged to re-run Trump. Almost every major Democratic governor or congressman who is behind the president's re-election bid has long denied his replacement in the 2024 US presidential election.
