FAM has just announced the ticket prices for the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-final first leg between Malaysia and Vietnam, taking place on August 16 at Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Cheras.
According to the new price, economy tickets for adults are priced at 50 ringgit (RM), equivalent to about 330,000 VND. This level is nearly 67% higher than the 30 RM price applied for group stage matches.
In addition to economy tickets, FAM offers levels of 70 RM (about 462,000 VND) for some stand areas and 100 RM (about 660,000 VND) for VIP areas. Meanwhile, economy tickets for children are still kept at 5 RM, equivalent to about 33,000 VND.
The ticket price increase quickly received reactions from a part of Malaysian fans. Many opinions suggest that the 50 RM level is relatively high, especially when the match does not take place at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Some fans believe that this price would be more acceptable if the Malaysian team played at Bukit Jalil, a stadium with a capacity of about 90,000 seats. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Cheras only has a capacity of more than 18,000 spectators.
A Malaysian fan said that the problem is not entirely in affordability but in the price compared to the venue. This person suggested that FAM should only adjust ticket prices to about 35 RM instead of 50 RM.
Some other opinions also reiterated the 50 RM price once applied to matches at Bukit Jalil and said that maintaining the same price when moving to Cheras stadium is not appropriate.
Fans' reactions took place in the context that the Malaysia vs. Vietnam match is considered one of the most notable confrontations in the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-finals. Cheras Stadium has limited capacity, while the demand for watching the Malaysian team is forecast to be high.
The first leg semi-final between Malaysia and Vietnam takes place on August 16th in Cheras. Three days later, the two teams will rematch in the second leg at My Dinh Stadium.
Malaysia is expected to take advantage of the home field advantage to create an advantage before traveling to Vietnam. However, the recent head-to-head history is significantly leaning towards the Vietnamese team. In the last 10 encounters, Malaysia has not won, with 9 defeats and 1 draw.
Therefore, the semi-final match at Cheras is considered an important opportunity for Malaysia to seek an advantage before the second leg. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team aims to maintain a favorable result before returning to My Dinh Stadium.
