The employment contract between shooting coach Park Chung-gun (Korea) and Vietnam Sports in 2024 expired on August 31. The expert, born in 1966, returned to Korea in early September for family reasons.
Since then, the Vietnamese shooting team has been training normally, but Mr. Park Chung-gun has not participated in coaching the team at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi.
According to information from the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Vietnamese sports industry is expected to work with Mr. Park Chung-gun on September 24 on professional work in the coming time, especially the issue of labor contracts so that the parties can consider finding a common voice.
However, according to the latest information, shooting expert Park Chung-gun has changed his plans and decided not to return to Vietnam to meet with sports leaders to work as planned.
Previously, on September 12, because coach Park Chung-gun was not in Vietnam and could not work directly, the Vietnamese sports industry sent an email to this coach.
The email stated: "Over the past 10 years, Vietnamese shooting under your guidance has achieved proud achievements. Although we did not meet the expectations set out in the Paris Olympics, there have been some bright spots noted.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training thanks you for accompanying the Vietnamese shooting team. We always appreciate your contributions to shooting as well as your affection for Vietnam. In order to prepare for the goal of winning gold medals for the 2026 ASIAD and the 2028 Olympics according to the strategy, the Department of Sports and Physical Training needs time to review, evaluate and adjust the plans of key sports, so the cooperation and invitation for you to continue coaching the shooting team will be announced to you as soon as possible.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training hopes to have the opportunity to continue working with you in the future. Hopefully, you will be a bridge contributing to the development of sports relations between Vietnam and Korea. Once again, we would like to sincerely thank you and wish you and your entire family all the best!".
