The Vietnamese women's volleyball team will face China in the quarterfinals of ASIAD 20 after finishing second in Group D. Thanh Thuy and her teammates must face the opponent who is ranked 7th in the world and is in the strongest group in Asia.
Previously, in the group stage, the Vietnamese women's team won 6 points after 3 matches. The team won against Qatar and Hong Kong (China) with the same score of 3-0, before losing to South Korea 1-3 in the final match.
In the confrontation with South Korea, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students sometimes played on par with the opponent. However, unstable first-footing ability and missed opportunities at important times made it impossible for the Vietnamese women's team to create a surprise.
On the other side, China advanced with a perfect record. They successively surpassed the Philippines and Kazakhstan, thereby topping Group B. This team has a long history with 3 Olympic gold medals and 2 world championships.
Possessing many players with good height, China has an advantage in attacking situations on the net as well as organizing blocks. This is a problem that Vietnam's attack and defense must solve if they want to prolong the match.
The two teams just met at the Asian Championship last month. At that time, Vietnam suffered a 0-3 defeat to China. However, this team then could not win the championship when they let Thailand win 3-2 in the final.
Before the quarter-final match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet asked his students to maintain psychological comfort and focus on their own abilities. This is a knockout match, so the result will determine the team to qualify for the semi-finals of ASIAD 20.
The match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and China takes place at 11:00 AM today (September 20), live on VTV6.
