When the number 1 position in Southeast Asia is affected
The Paris (France) 2024 Olympics witnessed 182 athletes from 11 countries in Southeast Asia competing in their sports and events, of which 5 countries won medals including Thailand (with Gold Medal), Indonesia (with Gold Medal), Philippines (with Gold Medal), Malaysia and Singapore. Most notably, female taekwondo player Panipak Wongpattanakit (Thailand) successfully defended the Gold Medal achieved at the Tokyo Olympics (Japan) 2020; Gymnastics player Carlos Yulo (Philippines) excellently won two Gold Medals; Weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah (Indonesia) won the Gold Medal and broke the record in the men's 73kg weightlifting event.
Vietnamese sports did not win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We have 16 players who officially competed in 18 events in 11 sports. The best result of Vietnamese sports is fourth place in the women's 10m air pistol event by shooter Trinh Thu Vinh.
Before the 2024 Paris Olympics, when attending two consecutive SEA Games, the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam (we won 205 Gold Medals, 125 Silver Medals, 116 Bronze Medals) and the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia (we won achieved 136 Gold Medals, 105 Silver Medals, 114 Bronze Medals), Vietnamese sports all ranked number one overall.
Before the Tokyo Olympics (Japan) 2020, Vietnamese sports competed in the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines and achieved a total of 98 Gold Medals, 85 Silver Medals, 105 Bronze Medals to rank second overall.
We won many medals at the SEA Games arena and affirmed our leading position in Southeast Asia, but competing directly at the Tokyo Olympics (Japan) 2020, Paris Olympics (France) 2024, Vietnamese sports are "white". hand".
Many opinions say that Vietnamese sports should skip focusing resources on the SEA Games arena and should invest heavily in forces aiming to compete at ASIAD and the Olympics, which will have real results. more quality. That's not necessarily true. Evidence can be seen that Panipak Wongpattanakit, Carlos Yulo, Rizki Juniansyah all participated in the SEA Games with their national sports, but they still achieved outstanding ability in their professional level and continued to conquer the Gold Medal at the Olympics. Vietnamese sports players have only achieved a level at the Southeast Asian level and have not been able to excel when entering the Olympic arena.
One more lesson learned
According to sports expert Nguyen Hong Minh, most importantly, we must clearly identify our key goals and then find resources from people to investment money to realize that goal.
After the competitions, leaders of the sports industry shared and always affirmed that learning from experience with each sport must be thoroughly implemented. We were not successful at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Vietnamese sports had more than 3 years of planning and professional preparation right after that to aim for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Now, we continue to be unsuccessful at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The sports industry not only learns from written experiences and meetings, but also needs to start making professional improvements.
Solving the problem of high-performance sports for Vietnamese sports is always the desire of managers. Through every competition from the SEA Games to ASIAD to the Olympics, we have never had the most perfect results. Concentrating investment, not spreading it out, is essential.
In 2024, the budget estimate allocated by the Department of Physical Education and Sports is more than 826,720 billion VND.
