Gold buyers at the January peak still haven't break even
After more than half a year of fluctuations, domestic gold prices have had a rebound. However, for investors who bought gold at the time the market peaked at the end of January 2026, the loss is still at tens of millions of VND per tael.
On January 29, 2026, SJC gold bar prices were listed by businesses in the highest price range of the year. At DOJI and Phu Quy, SJC gold bar prices were traded around 187.3 - 190.3 million VND/tael (buying - selling).
Meanwhile, Bao Tin Minh Chau listed SJC gold bar prices at 187.2 - 190.2 million VND/tael. The difference between buying and selling prices at popular units is at 3 million VND/tael.
At the same time, the price of 9999 gold rings was also pushed up to a high level. The selling price at DOJI, Bao Tin Minh Chau and Phu Quy ranged from 189.8 - 190.3 million VND/tael.
According to records at 12:52 PM on August 24, 2026, SJC gold bar prices have increased again. Phu Quy and DOJI both listed at 147 - 150 million VND/tael, while Bao Tin Minh Chau listed at 147.5 - 151.5 million VND/tael.
However, the current price is still significantly lower than the peak of late January.

Assuming to buy 1 tael of SJC gold bars at the selling price on January 29 and resell at the buying price on August 24, investors at DOJI and Phu Quy are still suffering a loss of about 43.3 million VND/tael.
At Bao Tin Minh Chau, the selling price on January 29 was 190.2 million VND/tael, while the current buying price is 147.5 million VND/tael. The difference caused buyers to lose about 42.7 million VND/tael.
Not only gold bars, buyers of 9999 gold rings at high prices at the end of January have also not been able to recover capital.
In Phu Quy, 9999 gold rings were sold on January 29 at 190.3 million VND/tael, while the buying price on August 24 was 147 million VND/tael. The corresponding loss was about 43.3 million VND/tael.
With DOJI and Bao Tin Minh Chau, the current buying price is also at 147.5 million VND/tael. Compared to the selling price of 189.8 - 190.2 million VND/tael on January 29, buyers are still suffering a loss of more than 42 million VND/tael.

World gold prices have not returned to their old peak
Domestic gold price movements are also affected by the trend of the international market. On January 29, 2026, world gold prices reached 5,516.6 USD/ounce.
By 12:52 PM on August 24, 2026, world gold prices traded at 4, 637.5 USD/ounce, down 879.1 USD/ounce compared to the end of January.
According to the ratio, world gold prices are currently about 15.9% lower than the peak on January 29.
Although it has recovered from the low zone, gold prices have not yet returned to the record level at the beginning of the year. This makes the group of investors buying in the period of strong price increases have to continue to wait if they want to bring investments back to breakeven points.

Besides price fluctuations, the buying - selling difference is also a factor directly affecting gold investment results. When prices reverse after a period of hot increase, investors are not only affected by the decrease in gold prices but also suffer from the gap between the two trading directions.
In the context of continuously fluctuating gold prices, investors need to carefully assess market developments, avoid chasing buying psychology when prices increase sharply. Capital allocation needs to be appropriate to financial capacity and holding targets.
Information in the article updates the developments of the gold market, not an investment recommendation. Investors need to consider before making a decision.
