death in the air is the biggest project of the People's Public Security Cinema. What is the chance for Kaity Nguyen to take on the role of flight attendant in this film?
- I was very lucky to be chosen and considered for the role of Trinh by director Ham Tran right from the time he prepared for the project. Before that, there were a few projects that Ham Tran and I connected with but had not had the opportunity to work together.
Therefore, when participating in the audition, I acted with co-stars to ensure harmonious emotional connection. I acted with Tram Anh, the actors acted as crew members and the actors of the opposing team to act as the whole team.
Many viewers are concerned that your figure is small when playing the role of flight attendant. Did you consider this factor before accepting the role?
- I know that the height standard for flight attendants is very important. They need to be professionally trained to serve in modern, large aircraft. However, in 1978 - 1980, the aircraft were quite small. When meeting a flight attendant on a flight attacked by a group of pilots in real life, her height and mine were equal.
My mother is also an flight attendant, working on the ground. She also looks like me and she said that my height was still suitable. Therefore, I am not too worried when recreating a character from nearly 50 years ago. The crew also supports and believes that height does not affect the filming process.
I also learned from my mother and the character's prototype to have the material to build the role. My mother showed me that when I was a flight attendant in the past, my lips always smiled, I was naturally comfortable and enthusiastic about welcoming guests.
The film requires actors to both act in action scenes and express emotions, how has Kaity Nguyen overcome this challenge?
- For me, every scene in the film is difficult. The plane is very narrow. When filming, you have to close all the doors and turn off the air conditioners to avoid noise. The actors and I all have difficulty controlling our breathing. However, that context helps increase stress and suffocation.
At the end of the film, I suffered a toothpick. The other scenes only caused me to bruise and feel a little pain.
In early 2025, Kaity Nguyen both starred in and participated in the production of the film "Love by mistake for a best friend" but the revenue was not good. What makes you continue to confidently invest in Death in the Air after an unlucky project?
- Business paths will always be risky, no matter the field. We cannot stop doing business because of one loss. With Love by mistake for a best friend and Falling in Love in the Air, I am very confident in my crew. From my perspective, I am satisfied with the film's results.
Death in the air is a new genre for Vietnamese films, with interesting cast, young faces, and veteran actors. The film will have many spices for the audience to experience. Director Ham Tran is also a director I really admire. He knows what he wants and needs to do with an action film.
At the end of the film, there is a scene where Trinh puts her hand on her belly and thinks about her child. Where did Kaity Nguyen get the material to express this scene, when you were not married and had not become a mother?
- I think if I put myself in that situation, how would I feel. I think maternal love is the instinct of women. I also love children, and I also want to have children when I have a family. If that happiness is taken away, women will suffer a lot.
So in real life, will Kaity Nguyen consider the time to get married?
- For me, everything depends on fate, even if I want to, I can't force it. About who to love, who to marry, when, I can't know in advance, so I can't predict.
