The project to build a new Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Museum located in the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel (Quang Tri Ward) belongs to the project package of Conserving, restoring, and upgrading key revolutionary historical relics in Quang Tri province, with a total investment of 45 billion VND, implementation period 2024-2025. The project consists of a 1-storey exhibition building, with an area of 900m2, and the entire space is for display.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial Museum, the old Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Museum in the ancient Citadel campus is currently outside the exhibition area, with all necessary items such as a martyrs' memorial worship room, a presentation room, a warehouse, a donation box preservation room, a security room and a restroom for management staff. This is an important condition to ensure the reception, guidance, preservation and promotion of the value of the relic.
However, the new museum under construction only has a single exhibition space, not arranged offices, worship rooms, or areas for management and protection.
If not supplemented, when put into operation, it will affect the exploitation of the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Special Monument said a representative of the Quang Tri Provincial Museum.
From this reality, the Provincial Museum has proposed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, requesting the investor to add essential functional items. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province has agreed and sent a document requesting the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board to study and submit to the competent authority for consideration.
Mr. Truong Huu Hieu - Deputy Head of the Quang Tri Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board said that the unit is calculating a plan to build 2 more Assembly Houses next to the museum to ensure full function.
"After having a specific plan, we will consult with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, if agreed, we will submit it to the Provincial People's Committee for approval" - Mr. Hieu said.
It is known that the old museum in Quang Tri ancient citadel was built a long time ago, has 2 floors, and is currently displaying many documentary photos, artifacts... to meet the need to learn about the relic. When the new Old Citadel Museum is built, the old museum will be demolished.
